New Jersey approves special 250th‑Anniversary Revolutionary War license plate

Governor Mikie Sherrill signed legislation creating a specialty license plate to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War. The plate’s design will be set by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission in consultation with the State Historical Commission, and it must meet a minimum of 500 paid applicants before issuance.

The $50 application fee and $10 annual renewal fee will fund a dedicated fund to preserve New Jersey’s more than 150 historic Revolutionary War sites. The bill, introduced by Assemblymen Alex Sauickie and Rob Clifton, passed the General Assembly on June 30 and was signed Thursday. Public funds cannot be used for design or production, so private backing is required, meaning the plate may not become available for up to a year.

Proceeds from the plate will support projects at historic battlefields and landmarks across the state, reinforcing New Jersey’s role as the “Crossroads of the Revolution.”
