New Jersey community initiatives focus on history and food security
The County College of Morris (CCM) is launching the fall 2026 installment of its Legacy Project, a series of free public events focused on the history and landscape of New Jersey. The program includes a virtual presentation on the history of popular music in the state by Professor Dewar MacLeod and a screening of the documentary “The Sacrifice Zone,” which examines environmental justice in Newark’s Ironbound district.
In Morris County, the organization nourish. NJ has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Bayer Fund. The funding supports the “More Than Meals: Food, Housing, Hope” program, which aims to combat hunger and its underlying causes. The grant will facilitate the distribution of nutritious meals through farmers’ markets and home delivery services, while also supporting outreach for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
