New Jersey Devils acquire Luke Evangelista from Nashville Predators

The New Jersey Devils have acquired 24-year-old forward Luke Evangelista from the Nashville Predators in a multi-asset trade. In exchange for the winger, the Devils are sending a conditional first-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft (originally belonging to the Colorado Avalanche) and their own 2028 second-round pick to Nashville.

Evangelista is coming off a career-high season in which he recorded 56 points (12 goals and 44 assists) in 81 games. He is currently in the final year of a two-year, $6 million contract with a $3 million annual cap hit and is expected to become a restricted free agent following the 2026-27 season.

Nashville Predators General Manager Chris MacFarland stated that the trade provides the team with increased roster and salary cap flexibility while acquiring high draft capital. The move is part of a broader effort by Nashville to rebuild and create opportunities for younger prospects. For the Devils, the acquisition adds depth to a forward group managed by new General Manager Sunny Mehta.
