New Jersey Devils re-sign Finnish defenseman Topias Vilen to one-year two-way deal

The New Jersey Devils announced a one‑year, two‑way contract extension for 23‑year‑old Finnish defense prospect Topias Vilen. The agreement pays $850,000 at the NHL level and $150,000 at the AHL level, with $175,000 guaranteed.

Vilen was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Draft and has spent the past three seasons with the Devils’ AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, while also logging games with the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder. He recorded 27 points in 61 AHL games in the 2025‑26 season and posted career‑high numbers the previous year.

He made his NHL debut in April 2024, appearing in two games against the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins, but has yet to register a point. The new contract adds depth to New Jersey’s defensive pipeline as the club continues to develop its prospects.
