New Jersey expands REAL ID appointment sites

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) has expanded REAL ID appointment availability by adding three new locations: Hazlet, Turnersville, and Wallington. This follows the addition of four other sites earlier this year, including Medford, South Brunswick, Springfield, and Trenton.

Since expanding access in April, New Jersey has issued more than 350,000 REAL IDs, bringing the total number in circulation to approximately 2.7 million. The agency reports an average of 19,400 IDs issued weekly.

To improve efficiency, the MVC began allowing electronic submission of proof of residence in April. This change has reduced the rate of customers requiring second appointments from 15% to 8%, preventing roughly 6,700 repeat transactions every month. The expansion aims to reduce statewide wait times as travelers face potential consequences at airport security if they lack compliant identification.
