New Jersey film industry sees growth driven by tax incentives

New Jersey is experiencing a significant increase in film and television production, driven largely by the state's film tax credit program. Eligible productions can receive tax credits of up to 35% of qualified film expenses.

In 2024, the state hosted 555 film and television projects, which generated an estimated $834 million in in-state spending. Notable productions include Adam Sandler's ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, which filmed in the state for 64 days and generated over $152 million in production spending, and Sydney Sweeney's ‘The Housemaid's Secret’ in Hoboken.

Other major productions filming in the state include Timothee Chalamet's ‘A Complete Unknown’ in Cape May. The state's proximity to New York City and its diverse locations, ranging from waterfronts to suburban neighborhoods, are cited as additional advantages for studios.
