New Jersey identifies 25 safest towns via FBI crime data
A new ranking of the 25 safest towns in New Jersey has been released, based on the FBI’s 2024 Uniform Crime Report. The analysis evaluated over 300 municipalities with populations exceeding 5,000 residents.
Towns were ranked using a ‘Safety Index’ that averages per capita rates of violent crime and property crime. The results indicate that many of the safest locations are small, suburban communities located away from major transit corridors. Several towns reported zero violent crimes throughout the year.
While Bergen and Morris counties featured frequently in the top rankings, a town in Monmouth County secured the number one spot in the state. The report notes that because the rankings use per capita data, smaller towns with low raw crime totals often outrank larger cities.
