New Jersey Legislature Tackles AI Job Bill and Voter ID Proposal

Assemblyman Robert Auth (R-39) has introduced a bill to promote artificial‑intelligence development in New Jersey by building data centers in Urban Enterprise Zones and using a share of profits to fund generic‑drug manufacturing. Seven Republican officials endorsed the proposal, saying it could create well‑paying jobs and reduce reliance on Chinese‑made medicines.

Governor Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, recently said she would support a voter‑identification law if it reached her desk. Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Michael Testa and Sen. Parker Space, hope the governor’s remarks will move the long‑stalled voter‑ID bill toward a hearing. The legislation would require voters to present a driver’s license, Real ID, passport or alternative documents such as utility bills. The debate follows revelations that thousands of non‑citizens were registered to vote in New Jersey, prompting new fraud complaints and an independent state investigation.
