New Jersey makes cocktails to-go permanent

Governor Mikie Sherrill has signed bill S4384 into law, making the sale of cocktails to-go permanent in New Jersey. The measure, which was originally implemented as a temporary measure during the coronavirus pandemic, allows qualifying liquor-license holders to sell and deliver alcoholic beverages, including mixed drinks, for off-premises consumption.

Under the new regulations, each mixed drink sold for takeout is limited to 16 ounces and must be provided with a tamper-proof seal. Establishments may fulfill these orders directly or through third-party delivery services.

Local business owners have expressed support for the legislation, noting that takeout alcohol has become a significant revenue stream. Some bars report that takeout beverages account for nearly a quarter of their total alcohol revenue.
