New Jersey mosquito spraying scheduled following West Nile virus detection

Public health officials in New Jersey are implementing mosquito control measures following the detection of West Nile virus in mosquito samples.

In Warren County, the Mosquito Commission has scheduled treatments for Wednesday night, August 12, between 7:45 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. The spraying will target roads in Hardwick, Allamuchy, Independence, Blairstown, and Knowlton townships. This follows the identification of West Nile virus in mosquitoes within the county.

In Howell, officials announced precautionary spraying for the early morning of Friday, August 14, from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. This action follows the detection of the virus in mosquitoes that bite humans. The treatment area includes residential and municipal streets near Old Tavern Road, Manassa Road, Norse Drive, and Preventorium Road. The Monmouth County Mosquito Control Division will use Zenivex 4E, an insecticide applied via ultra-low-volume sprayers.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors with windows and air conditioners closed during spraying, bring pets and outdoor items inside, and avoid contact with wet surfaces.
