New Jersey Nuclear Task Force begins planning for 1,100 megawatts of power

The New Jersey Nuclear Task Force held its first official meeting to plan for the development of 1,100 megawatts of new nuclear power. The 14-member group, composed of leaders from the energy, finance, and construction sectors, aims to facilitate a nuclear renaissance in the state following the lifting of a de facto moratorium on new plants by Governor Mikie Sherrill.

To address the challenges of building new reactors, the task force has established five subcommittees focused on regulatory and permitting frameworks, financing and deal structures, supply chain and technology development, workforce growth and training, and public support. These efforts follow the unanimous passage of the Power NJ Act by lawmakers in July, intended to clear the path for new energy generation to meet rising demand.
