New Jersey Officer Luke Falkenberg Not Charged in Keith Edelin Shooting

On November 3, 2024, Haddon Township police responded to a burglary call at an apartment complex on West Crystal Lake Avenue. Officers found blood in the lobby and elevator and later encountered 46‑year‑old Keith Edelin, a resident of Pennsauken, who was armed with a knife. After repeated commands to drop the weapon, Edelin advanced toward Officer Luke Falkenberg, who discharged his service weapon, striking Edelin. The victim was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

A New Jersey Attorney General’s Office grand jury reviewed body‑camera footage, ballistics reports and the autopsy. The grand jury issued a “no bill,” declining to indict Falkenberg. State officials indicated the matter will now proceed to an administrative review of the officer. No police officers were injured in the incident.
