New Jersey Polls Reveal High State Pride and Preference for Full‑Service Gas
A Rutgers‑Eagleton poll surveyed 1,006 New Jersey adults in late June and found that 70 % of respondents take at least some pride in living in the Garden State, with 35 % reporting a lot of pride. Pride levels were high across party lines—79 % of Democrats, 67 % of independents and 63 % of Republicans expressed some pride—and persisted across income brackets, although residents earning over $150,000 were slightly less likely to feel proud.
Separate polling by Fairleigh Dickinson University asked whether New Jersey should keep its unique ban on self‑serve gasoline. Roughly 64 % of respondents favored retaining the ban and allowing only full‑service pumps, while only about 24 % supported the option of self‑serve. Support for the ban was uniform across gender, age, and political affiliation, indicating broad consensus against changing the statewide prohibition.
