New Jersey towns ranked by crime rates

A new ranking of the 25 most dangerous towns in New Jersey has been released, based on data from the FBI’s 2024 Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The analysis, compiled by HomeSnacks, evaluated over 300 municipalities with populations exceeding 5,000 residents.

The rankings utilize a ‘Dangerous Index,’ which averages the per capita rates of violent crime and property crime. Because the data is calculated per 100,000 residents rather than by raw totals, smaller towns and shore communities may appear higher on the list than larger urban centers like Newark or Jersey City.
