New Jersey Voter Registration System Hits Errors and Outage
New Jersey officials confirmed that the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) was taken offline on Monday, leaving county election offices unable to access or update voter records. The shutdown, announced via an email from the vendor KNOWiNK, is expected to last until Tuesday, though the state has not provided an explanation for the outage.
The incident follows earlier reports of a registration glitch that added thousands of non‑citizens to the voter rolls. Governor Mikie Sherrill referenced the error, noting that a large number of Moroccan migrants were mistakenly registered, and remarked, "Oops, how did that happen?" The governor pledged to investigate the source of the mistake and assured that any affected votes would be addressed.
State agencies, including the Motor Vehicle Commission and the Department of State, have not responded to inquiries about the cause of the system failure or its possible connection to the prior registration error.
