New Jersey weather to turn cooler with heavy rain expected this weekend

New Jersey is expected to experience a transition from summer to autumn weather this weekend, characterized by a significant cooldown and incoming rain. Following a warm Friday with highs in the lower 80s, temperatures are forecast to drop to the lower 70s on Saturday.

A storm system arriving Sunday is expected to bring showers to North Jersey in the morning, spreading statewide by the afternoon and evening. Rainfall estimates for Sunday have risen to over an inch in some areas, raising concerns regarding ponding and flooding.

The unsettled weather is predicted to continue through much of next week, potentially resulting in multiple inches of rain as the ground becomes saturated. While heavy rain is expected, the likelihood of severe weather such as tornadoes, hail, or high winds remains low due to the cooler atmospheric setup.
