Mexico sees emergence of new opposition parties

A new political force called Alianza Generacional por Veracruz was established by deputy Héctor Yunes, who announced the party will welcome former Morena members but will not accept active Morena militants. The group seeks registration as a local party and plans to field candidates in all 212 Veracruz municipalities for the 2027 local elections, running without coalitions.

In San Luis Potosí, former capital mayor Francisco Xavier Palacios launched Somos MX, positioning it as a genuine opposition to Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona. Palacios, after regaining his political rights, declared the party will promote high‑level debates and challenge alleged corruption.

Nationally, leaders of the newly registered parties Somos México and PAZ (Paz y Libertad) took their oaths before the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE). They called for the restoration of democracy, security, and the end of premature campaign activities, criticizing the current government's influence on the electoral process. All three parties present themselves as alternatives to the dominant Morena movement and aim to increase political pluralism ahead of upcoming elections.
