New literary releases feature pastoral life and social precariousness
Two new novels are being introduced to the Catalan literary market, exploring distinct social and environmental themes.
Eduard Balsells will present his debut novel, ‘Fins que la neu ens faci fora’, at the Central Library of Igualada. Set in the Pyrenees, the story follows two brothers, Jep and Gil, as they navigate family tensions and the challenges of maintaining a traditional pastoral lifestyle following their father's death. The work draws on Balsells' personal experience as a shepherd to depict the transformations of rural life.
Additionally, Saphia Azzeddine’s novel ‘Mon pare és dona de fer feines’ is being released in Catalan translation by Cap de Brot Edicions. Translated by Marc Rovira, the book uses the perspective of an adolescent named Polo to examine themes of precariousness, social indignity, and the struggle to escape difficult environments. Azzeddine, a Franco-Moroccan author and filmmaker, is noted for her explorations of identity and religion.
