New literary travel guides released for Berlin and Lower Silesia

Two new literary travel guides have been announced, offering unique perspectives on European landscapes through literature.

Marcel Krueger and Paul Sullivan have released a German translation of “Berlin: A Literary Guide” via BeBra-Verlag. Originally published in English in 2016, this guide provides an external perspective on the German capital by incorporating text excerpts from English-language sources. It explores Berlin as a city of constant reinvention, focusing on various locations through the lens of diverse literary voices.

Author Roswitha Schieb has published “Literarischer Reiseführer Niederschlesien” (Literary Travel Guide to Lower Silesia) through the Verlag des Deutschen Kulturforums östliches Europa. The 479-page book explores the region in five stages, covering areas such as Wrocław, the Ślęża mountain, and the Giant Mountains. The guide features works from various authors, including Nobel laureates Gerhart Hauptmann and Olga Tokarczuk, and examines themes ranging from regional mysticism to mountain romanticism.
