New literary works released by Alfredo Fuentes and Pedro Cayuqueo
Historian Alfredo Fuentes Bernabé is presenting his new essay, ‘Escarabajosa: un lugar del Sexmo de Cabezas’, in Escarabajosa de Cabezas, Spain. The work utilizes unpublished parish records, notary protocols, and early modern council books to explore the history, toponomy, and identity of the region. The book covers historical milestones, including hunting expeditions by King Charles III and the village's early adoption of a female mayor.
In Chile, journalist and author Pedro Cayuqueo has transitioned from non-fiction to narrative with his new crime novel, ‘Huecufe’. The book is the first in a trilogy set in the Araucanía Region, focusing on a serial killer investigation. Cayuqueo stated that fiction provides tools to explore Mapuche reality and truths that traditional journalism may not fully capture, aiming to avoid caricatures of the Mapuche context.
