New Malden house fire destroys home and car in London

A massive house fire in New Malden, southwest London, destroyed a semi-detached home and a car parked in the front garden. The blaze broke out on Mount Pleasant Road on Saturday night and continued into Sunday morning.

Approximately 70 firefighters and ten engines from Surbiton, Kingston, Sutton, and Wimbledon responded to the scene. The London Fire Brigade reported that the ground and first floors were completely destroyed, and half of the two-storey roof sustained damage. Crews utilized a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to combat the flames from above.

No injuries were reported. As a precaution, firefighters removed and cooled a gas cylinder to prevent a potential explosion. Local residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke affecting the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
