New Mexico considers second taxpayer-funded reproductive health clinic
New Mexico officials are considering the establishment of a second taxpayer-funded reproductive health clinic. The state has already allocated $10 million to the University of New Mexico to build and equip a facility in northern New Mexico. While the specific location has not been officially announced, the New Mexico Alliance for Life has suggested that Las Vegas, New Mexico, could be the site, noting its proximity to New Mexico Highlands University and Luna Community College.
This proposed northern clinic would be in addition to a facility currently under development in Las Cruces. The University of New Mexico has stated that its 8,000-square-foot facility will provide services including chemical and surgical abortions, miscarriage care, and birth control. The project is being coordinated with the Reproductive Health Care Success Project, which includes Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
