New Mexico defeats Central Michigan 38-7 in season opener

New Mexico defeated Central Michigan 38-7 in their college football season opener at University Stadium in Albuquerque. The Lobos established an early lead, building a 20-0 advantage by halftime through two touchdown runs by James Laubstein and three field goals by Grant Glasgow.

New Mexico dominated the statistical categories, outgaining Central Michigan 364 to 149 yards. The Lobos' offense was bolstered by Luke Moga, who completed 17 of 13 passes for 116 yards, and a rushing attack that totaled 205 yards. Central Michigan's lone touchdown came late in the game via a 23-yard run by Nasir Williams.

Central Michigan coach Matt Drinkall noted that the performance highlighted several deficiencies in the team's play that must be addressed. The Chippewas will next host Colgate, while New Mexico is scheduled to host Mercyhurst.
