New Mexico Democrats Boost Election Push as Haaland Defends USPS and Garcia Richard Wins Lt. Gov Nomination

On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of the Interior and former New Mexico congresswoman Deb Haaland joined American Postal Workers Union members in Albuquerque for a national day of action against proposed privatization of the United States Postal Service. She highlighted the role of public post offices in rural communities and warned that privatization could raise costs and reduce service.

In a related political development, New Mexico Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard was chosen by the state Democratic Party’s State Central Committee as the nominee for lieutenant governor. She secured 255 votes, defeating Harold Pope Jr., and will appear on the November ballot alongside gubernatorial nominee Deb Haaland against Republican candidate David Gallegos.
