New Mexico releases $3.75M for emergency flood response
New Mexico officials have released up to $3.75 million in emergency funds to assist communities facing widespread flooding caused by heavy monsoon moisture. Acting Governor Howie Morales issued five executive orders, each authorizing $750,000 for the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, to help prevent and respond to damage.
The flooding has impacted 14 counties, particularly in southern New Mexico, with over 80 flood events reported. The National Weather Service noted impassable roads, stranded vehicles, and significant water levels in counties such as Lincoln, Doña Ana, Santa Fe, Luna, and Socorro. In Hatch, water breached a main gasoline line, leading local police to warn residents against using fuel pumps due to potential vehicle damage.
Project Jupiter, a site involving Oracle and STACK Infrastructure, reported that flooding reached its campus. However, the companies stated that no critical infrastructure was damaged and the project remains on its planned schedule.
