New Mexico State University dismisses football coach David Cobb

New Mexico State University placed assistant head coach, general manager and running backs coach David Cobb on administrative leave just before the start of fall camp and subsequently terminated his employment. Cobb, who joined the Aggies in 2023, will be replaced in the coming days as the team prepares for its 2026 season opener on August 29 against Florida State. NCAA representatives visited the Las Cruces campus earlier in the week, a development that may be linked to the sudden staff change.

Head coach Tony Sanchez declined to comment on the specifics of Cobb’s departure, noting that the athletics department will announce a new running backs coach soon.
