New Mexico Supreme Court denies Democratic ballot replacements
The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that Democratic replacement candidates will remain off the ballot for House District 4 and House District 23 due to missed legal deadlines. The 4–1 decision prevents the Democratic Party from filling vacancies created by candidates who withdrew too close to the election.
In House District 4, Republican Heather Scott Ellison remains the only listed candidate. In House District 23, the ruling protects Republican Rep. Alan Martinez from a late replacement challenger. The court determined that the vacancies themselves had to be created at least 90 days before the election to allow for party replacements, a requirement that the Democratic nominees failed to meet.
