New municipal councils take office in Druten and Deurne, Netherlands

Mayor Sigrid Sengers of Druten welcomed the start of a new municipal term, noting the coalition agreement titled “Kernen in kracht, wijken in beweging.” The plan stresses strengthening neighbourhood ties, investing in public meeting places and aligning local policy with the long‑term Druten2040 vision.

In Deurne, a newly formed college of mayor and aldermen was installed, with Joan van Rixtel appointed as alderman for land, energy and asylum. Van Rixtel, a former researcher and data‑project developer, said, “Als achttienjarige dacht ik niet dat ik ooit nog terug zou keren naar Liessel.” He pledged to protect the identity of local villages, address housing pressure from the growth of Eindhoven and ASML, and boost recreation and tourism through improved cycling and walking routes.
