New Municipal Leaders Take Office in Amsterdam Zuidoost and Zandvoort, Netherlands

Tyas Bijlholt, a 32‑year‑old D66 councillor from Amersfoort, has been nominated by the Amsterdam municipal council to become the borough manager of Amsterdam Zouidoost, with his appointment expected in early July. After twelve years in Amersfoort politics, he will leave his roles overseeing mobility, culture, education and the labour market. Mayor Lucas Bolsius praised Bijlholt’s “energy and perseverance,” and Bijlholt expressed pride in his Amersfoort service and optimism for the new challenge.

In Zandvoort, three new wethouders—Edwin Sibbel (OPZ), Daniëlle Wiegmans (Jong Zandvoort) and Lars Carree (VVD)—were sworn in on 10 June 2026. Their appointment enables the municipal college to begin implementing the coalition agreement “Thuis in Zandvoort: op koers naar een mooie toekomst.” The incoming board will replace long‑serving officials Gert‑Jan Bluijs and Jan‑Jaap de Kloet, who stepped down after years of service.
