New Municipal Schools Open in Goiana and Rondonópolis, Brazil

The municipality of Goiana in Pernambuco inaugurated the Escola Municipal Professora Belisana Pinto de Abreu de Araújo on July 15. Built with local funds, the school replaces a rented facility and offers 12 climate‑controlled classrooms, a library, science and computer labs, an auditorium, a covered sports court, a cafeteria, a kitchen, a resource room and accessible spaces. It will initially serve 175 children in early childhood and early primary grades, with plans to expand to full‑day operation by 2027.

On July 16, Rondonópolis in Mato Grosso opened the Escola Municipal de Educação Infantil Mateus Vinícius Braz. The new 991.5‑square‑metre building includes six classrooms, a library, a video room, a special‑education support room and the city’s first school elevator, allowing full accessibility. The facility can accommodate 288 children aged four to five and is named in memory of a local boy who attended the former school. The mayor highlighted the project as part of a broader effort to improve municipal education infrastructure.
