New Patriotic Party elects new national leadership
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has concluded its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, electing a new cohort of national officers to lead the party toward the 2028 general elections. John Boadu has been elected as National Chairman, while Justin Kodua Frimpong retains his position as General Secretary.
In the vice-chairmanship race, Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, also known as Kojo Bamba, secured the position of First National Vice Chairman with 3,116 votes. He is joined by Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) as Second Vice Chairman and Nana Akomea as Third Vice Chairman. The election of Bamba has drawn varied reactions, with some supporters viewing it as a sign that the party is embracing youth leadership, while critics and political opponents have raised concerns regarding the party's strategic direction and potential for future political instability.
Following the elections, the NPP Council of Elders has called for immediate unity, urging the new leadership to integrate all candidates and work collectively to support the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Meanwhile, newly elected Chairman John Boadu addressed recent constitutional changes, stating that the role of chairman should be viewed as one of service rather than automatic party leadership.
