New orchid species discovered in Peru's Yanachaga Chemillén National Park
Researchers have discovered a new orchid species, named Lepanthes ashaninka, in the montane forests of Yanachaga Chemillén National Park in the Pasco region of Peru. The discovery was made in the Oxapampa province within the high forests of the Yanachaga range.
The new species was identified by Luis Valenzuela Gamarra of the Missouri Botanical Garden and Luis Ocupa-Horna of the Pedro Ruiz Gallo Herbarium at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Ruiz Gallo. The findings were published in the scientific journal Phytotaxa.
