New Orleans shifts two Mardi Gras parades off Magazine Street for 2027

City officials in New Orleans have decided to move the Krewe of Sparta and Krewe d’Etat parades 13 blocks downtown for the 2027 Mardi Gras season, removing them from the Magazine Street stretch between Jefferson and Napoleon Avenues. The change is intended to ease financial pressures on police, first responders, and street‑cleaning services, but has upset local residents such as Jordan Thomas, whose home traditionally hosted parade crowds. Thomas said the loss of the parades diminishes a cherished community celebration. While the Hermes and Morpheus parades will still run on Magazine Street, the two displaced events will require spectators to travel downtown to attend.
