New Party accuses CPC Corporation of political suppression over venue cancellation

The New Party has accused CPC Corporation, Taiwan of political suppression after the state-owned energy company abruptly canceled the rental of its Guoguang Hall for the party’s 33rd anniversary celebration. The party had previously signed a contract and made payments for the venue in the Xinyi District of Taipei.

In response to the cancellation, the New Party moved its event to the Taipei City Council auditorium. Party officials, including Chairman Wu Cheng-dien and Legislator Hou Han-ting, expressed concerns that the decision was driven by political pressure. Hou Han-ting suggested that the sudden breach of a commercial agreement indicated interference from external political forces.

CPC Corporation, Taiwan denied allegations of political bias, stating the decision was made to maintain “administrative neutrality.” The company explained that while the initial rental request met management regulations, the party later announced plans to use the event for political activities, including endorsing candidates for upcoming elections. CPC stated it has since refunded the rental fees and security deposits.
