New Patriotic Party concludes nominations for 2026 national elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has concluded its nomination period for the 2026 national executive elections, with 50 aspirants having purchased forms to contest nine distinct roles across 11 executive slots. The upcoming election process includes a vetting stage scheduled from August 31 to September 3, 2026, to determine the final list of candidates.

Key contests include the National Chairperson position, which features five aspirants: Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe, and Bernard Antwi Boasiako. The National Vice Chairperson race is the most competitive with 13 aspirants. Other notable positions include General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, and various regional and specialized roles.

In recent developments, Gordon Asare-Bediako has withdrawn from the National Communications Director race to support Dennis Miracles Aboagye. Meanwhile, former National Chairman Paul Afoko is set to formally file his nomination, campaigning on a ‘3R Agenda’ of Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture to prepare the party for the 2028 general elections. Additionally, Ashanti Regional Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah has called for a return to party core values to rebuild grassroots support following recent electoral losses.
