New Patriotic Party USA postpones branch election amid procedural disputes

The New Patriotic Party's United States branch delayed its scheduled election, citing unresolved appeals, an incomplete voter register, disagreements over the party's electronic voting platform and pending verification for proxy voting. Deputy Secretary Haruna Mohammed said the party could not guarantee a credible vote without these issues resolved.

The postponement coincided with a three‑day conference in Westborough, Massachusetts, where delegates from U.S. chapters gathered to elect a new executive team and set strategy for Ghana's 2028 elections. The meeting featured speeches by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's presidential candidate, and senior figures including acting national chairman Danquah Smith Buttey and minority leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin. The conference aims to strengthen diaspora engagement and fundraising ahead of the next national contest in Ghana.
