New Primary Health Units Near Completion in Brazil's Federal District and Minas Gerais

Construction of a new Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Brazlândia, Federal District, is in its final phase, with internal finishes and installations nearly completed. The R$ 11 million project, overseen by Novacap and the district health secretariat, will serve about 20,000 rural residents and includes a pharmacy, dental office, vaccination area, and accessible parking. Director‑President Fernando Leite highlighted the importance of expanding public health equipment in rural zones, while regional administrator Luciana Lima said the unit will bring “greater dignity and speed” to local preventive care.

In Minas Gerais, Governor Mateus Simões inspected the nearly finished UBS São José in Capitão Andrade, reporting 90 % of works completed and a September opening. The R$ 2 million facility will serve roughly 3,000 inhabitants with medical, nursing, dental, vaccination, prenatal and chronic‑disease services. Resident Valdirene Oliveira noted that the new unit will “greatly reduce the distance” for locals who previously traveled to the city center for care. Both projects are part of broader state and federal efforts to expand primary‑health coverage across Brazil’s rural communities.
