New quarry and landfill proposals emerge in New South Wales
Several industrial proposals for quarrying and landfill operations have been introduced in the Southern Highlands and Bungonia regions of New South Wales.
In the Bungonia district, Multiquip Quarries has applied for a landfill operation capable of handling 550,000 tonnes of non-putrescible waste, with plans to process 50,000 tonnes through a resource recovery hub. Simultaneously, Hi-Quality Waste Management is seeking to expand its existing landfill capacity at Oallen Ford Road from 120,000 to 375,000 tonnes annually. These companies state the expansions are necessary to meet waste disposal demands in Sydney and surrounding council areas. However, local residents and the Goulburn Mulwaree Council have expressed concerns regarding increased truck traffic and potential noise.
Additionally, plans have been released for the Carrick Quarry, a proposed 90-hectare hard rock extraction site near Marulan. Managed by Regional Group Australia Pty Ltd, the project aims to produce up to 1 million tonnes of rock products per year for the construction industry using conventional drill and blast techniques. The project is estimated to create approximately 70 jobs once operational.
