New rectors appointed at Unimontes and UEM universities

In Brazil, two state universities have announced new leadership for the 2026–2030 term.

Governor Mateus Simões has reappointed Professor Wagner de Paulo Santiago as the rector of the State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes). The decision follows an internal consultation where Santiago received 80.6% of the votes. Santiago, a professor at the institution since 1994, will serve his second term from December 2026 to December 2030.

Separately, Professor Gisele Mendes de Carvalho has assumed the rectorate of the State University of Maringá (UEM) alongside Vice-Rector Geovanio Edervaldo Rossato. Mendes de Carvalho is the second woman to hold this position in the university's history. Her administration's priorities include student inclusion, assistance programs, and strengthening regional campus services.
