New Senate compositions feature Rio Grande do Sul natives and retail businessman
Several individuals from Rio Grande do Sul are set to hold seats in the Brazilian Senate in the upcoming legislature. Antonio Nicoletti, a former Federal Highway Police officer from Ijuí, secured a seat representing Roraima. Alessandro Vieira, originally from Passo Fundo, will continue his term representing Sergipe, focusing on transparency and anti-corruption initiatives.
In Minas Gerais, businessman Alex Sandro Coelho Diniz is expected to assume a Senate seat in January 2027. As the first alternate for the governor-elect, Diniz brings a background in the food retail sector. He manages a network of 22 supermarkets in Minas Gerais and is part of the family that holds a 25.1% stake in GPA, the parent company of Pão de Açúcar and Extra.
