New social and mental health facilities to open in Poland

New social and health facilities are set to open in Poland to support children and families. In Wałbrzych, a branch of the Lower Silesian Social Policy Center (DOPS) Adoption Center will officially open on October 10, 2026. Funded with approximately 350,000 PLN by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Board, the facility aims to increase access to specialized support for children, families, and prospective adoptive parents in the southern part of the province. The decision follows a growing need for adoption services in the former Wałbrzych Voivodeship, where 119 children were reported in adoption procedures in 2025.

Additionally, the Regional Mental Health Center in Cholewianka is commencing operations. Following a modernization project costing over 11 million PLN, which utilized EU funds, the facility includes a 30-bed day ward for children and adolescents and an 8-bed hostel for individuals over 16 who require specialized support without full hospitalization. The center will serve the Puławy district and surrounding areas, offering psychological counseling, psychotherapy, and psychiatric services. A specialized sub-unit will also be available to diagnose developmental disorders, such as autism, in children under six years old.
