New software projects target PS5 PC compatibility and Windows developer automation
A developer is working on an open-source tool designed to run PlayStation 5 games on PC without traditional emulation. Unlike standard emulators that recreate console architecture, this tool functions as an operating system translator. Because both the PS5 and modern PCs share the x86-64 architecture, the project aims to convert PS5 executables directly into native Windows and Linux formats, similar to how Wine or Proton operate. The project has reached the rendering loop stage and can display initial frames, with public releases planned once at least one title can be completed successfully.
Separately, Microsoft has released Windows Developer Config, an open-source project intended to streamline workstation setup for programmers. By using a single PowerShell command, the tool can transform a clean Windows 11 installation into a development-ready environment in approximately 30 minutes. The process automates 50 steps across 11 phases, installing 15 development packages and adjusting system settings without requiring manual configuration through the Control Panel. This tool is designed to work on standard hardware, unlike Microsoft’s Project Zenith which requires 64 GB of RAM.
