New solar integration systems launched for flat and pitched roofs
New technological developments are enhancing the integration of photovoltaic systems into various roofing structures.
Polyglass S. p. A., a member of the Mapei Group, has introduced XSOLAR, a mounting system designed for flat roofs. The system allows for the installation of solar panels without removing existing waterproofing. By mechanically attaching directly to the building's load-bearing structure, XSOLAR separates the structural and waterproofing functions, ensuring static security and fire resistance. The system has undergone FEM analysis by the Italian Technology Lab to confirm its reliability against wind, snow, and seismic loads.
In a different approach to roof integration, Wienerberger has introduced the X-Tile and X-Frame systems for pitched roofs. X-Tile utilizes photovoltaic modules that sit between fired roof tiles, effectively replacing part of the roofing material. X-Frame uses a system of frames and flashing to house standard photovoltaic panels. Both systems are designed to maintain weather protection and have undergone testing against wind-driven rain.
