New South Wales allocates $8 million to Wollongong sports and entertainment precinct

The New South Wales 2026/27 budget sets aside $8 million for the Wollongong sports and entertainment precinct, bringing the allocation to nearly half of the $17 million originally proposed. The funding is intended to move the project "ready for construction" despite no firm timeline, with the venue expected to host up to 150 events annually and generate roughly $550 million in economic activity.

Transport projects in the Illawarra also receive funding: $68.653 million for the Mount Ousley Interchange, $7.577 million for the Picton Road upgrade and $5.63 million for planning the south‑facing M1 ramps at Dapto. These works are financed jointly by state and federal governments.

Health spending continues with $202.25 million allocated to the new Shellharbour Hospital and integrated services, including an expanded emergency department and a rooftop helipad, and $22.94 million earmarked for the Wollongong Hospital and Health Precinct expansion.
