Keshav Jindal rescued after three days missing in British Columbia's Strathcona Park

On August 6, 2026, 25‑year‑old hiker Keshav Jindal was located alive in a canyon on Mount Albert Edward in Strathcona Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Jindal and his partner set out on August 3 to summit the peak; they became separated on the way up and Jindal did not return to the parking area as expected.

A multi‑agency search involving Comox Valley Search and Rescue, Campbell River Search and Rescue, Arrowsmith Search and Rescue, Nanaimo Search and Rescue, two helicopters, canine teams and the Artemis cellphone‑location system was launched. An RCMP helicopter spotted Jindal waving from a steep ledge, and a hoist‑equipped rescue helicopter lifted him to safety. He was then transferred to British Columbia Emergency Health Services for treatment of injuries, dehydration and mild hypothermia.

Search and rescue manager Paul Berry emphasized the importance of hiking in pairs, carrying backup power supplies and choosing routes that match experience levels. Volunteers from seven teams across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland participated in the operation.
