New South Wales events projected to generate $100 million

New South Wales is anticipating a significant economic boost in October, with major sporting, cultural, and entertainment events projected to generate over $100 million for the state’s visitor economy. The influx coincides with the spring school holidays and the October long weekend.

Key sporting highlights include the NRL and NRLW Grand Finals at Accor Stadium and the commencement of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup in Sydney. The tournament will feature 16 matches across Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong, including an opening match between Australia and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium. Additionally, Wollongong will host the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup.

Other major athletic events include an international quadruple-header at Accor Stadium featuring Australia’s senior rugby teams, the Bathurst 1000, and IRONMAN Port Macquarie. The entertainment calendar features performances by Anyma at The Domain and the K-Pop group BIGBANG at Accor Stadium. Regional activities also include the Deni Ute Muster and the Yours and Owls Festival.
