New South Wales funds $8.3 million support package and permanent Bondi memorial

The New South Wales government announced an $8.3 million support package for the Jewish and Bondi communities following the December 2023 terrorist attack that killed 15 people at a Hanukkah by the Sea event on Bondi Beach. The package includes $2 million for Waverley Council to build a permanent memorial at the site, $2 million for long‑term wellbeing and recovery programmes, a $1 million grant to the Jewish Board of Deputies, $200,000 for Multicultural NSW, $500,000 for the Community Security Group, and $2.6 million for upgrades to the Sydney Jewish Museum.

A memorial service marking the six‑month anniversary will feature prayers, the reading of names, reflections, music, moments of silence and lighting of candles. NSW Premier Chris Minns said the funding is intended to support healing and to lay groundwork for preventing future attacks, while community leaders praised the commitment.

The initiative follows heightened public scrutiny after the Royal Commission into the attack and signals continued government resources for community resilience and security.
