New South Wales hosts fishing competitions and safety workshops

Various fishing-related events and safety initiatives are taking place across New South Wales. The Fish Reflections catch-and-release competition is being held at Lake Keepit and Copeton Waters, offering $90,000 in prizes across multiple categories to participants of all skill levels.

Separately, Surf Life Saving NSW is launching the third iteration of its ‘Gone Fishing’ safety program. The initiative includes nine workshops scheduled through March 2027, specifically targeting high-risk demographics and locations to reduce rock fishing drowning deaths. A major workshop is set for September 12 at Little Bay, a known high-risk area. The program, supported by the NSW Government, focuses on promoting life jacket usage and safe fishing practices within culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
