New South Wales invests $4 million in critical minerals research

The New South Wales (NSW) Government has announced a $4 million investment into the NSW Critical Minerals Processing and Advanced Materials Innovation Program. The initiative provides research grants of up to $100,000 to organizations, such as universities, to support Phase 1 proof-of-concept projects.

These projects aim to enhance mineral recovery, develop processing methods for advanced materials, and extract critical minerals from mine tailings, waste rock, and residues. The program is designed to strengthen the state's position in the global critical minerals supply chain and move beyond raw material extraction toward advanced manufacturing capabilities. Successful applicants may be eligible for a second round of funding for demonstration and pre-commercial validation starting in late 2027.
