New South Wales Police investigate suitcase found to contain life-like doll

Police in New South Wales, Australia, investigated a reported discovery of human remains in a suitcase near Oallen, only to find the object was a highly realistic life-like doll.

On August 9, 2026, two individuals driving near Oallen spotted a suitcase abandoned on the side of Wollongon Road. Upon seeing what appeared to be a woman's body inside, they alerted the Hume Police District. Due to heavy rain and the potential for evidence contamination, officers treated the site as a crime scene, securing the area with a tent and transporting the unopened suitcase to a forensic laboratory.

Initial police reports suggested the remains were those of a woman and appeared to be in a state of decay. However, forensic testing on August 10 revealed the object was actually a sex doll. The doll was highly detailed, featuring hair, clothing, a nose piercing, and markings designed to resemble bruises and grazes.

Criminologist and former NSW police officer Vincent Hurley defended the investigators' actions, noting that following strict procedure to avoid contaminating a potential crime scene is essential. He stated that while the outcome is “amusing in hindsight,” officers acted correctly by not prematurely opening the bag to preserve possible forensic evidence.
